Specifications and directions for creating a

Santa’s Village Shop

for the Window Display at

ALL THINGS ART

  • Find your own local sponsor (businesses: $50)

(Builders will receive a check of $25 toward reimbursement of time and materials,

sometime after the delivery of the building, if you are donating the building for silent auction)

  • Use a business we know that is just

looking for an artist!

  • Forms available at ATA or call and we'll mail you one
  • If you donate the building for a silent auction to benefit

ATA you will be eligible for the Viewer's Choice Award

  • Most important is just to have fun!

1. Construct the building out of rigid materials such as stiff

cardboard, foam core, masonite, luan, thin plywood, or

  paper mache.
2. The building should have a base or bottom.
3. Windows and doors can vary in size (see illustration for

   suggested sizes).
4. The interior of the building may be lighted. Please make

certain that the lights are operational and the cord/plug

comes out from the back or bottom of the building.
5. Make sure all parts of the building are secure. Use glue or

fasteners that will securely hold the structure together. If

using hot glue, attach from the inside of the structure, so the

  glue does not show.
6. A wide range of materials may be used to add details to the

   building.
(Remember this is NOT a gingerbread house, so limit the

use of food products as building materials). Paint, wood,

parts from Christmas decorations, children’s toy parts, doll

house items etc. might be useful from which to select the

details appropriate for the particular shop or building.
7. Finish and decorate the front and two sides of the building. The

back will not be seen so finishing that side is optional.
8. Create a sign that is attached to the building with the name of the

    shop/building.
9. Feel free to add other features such as chimneys, dormers, etc.
10. The door(s)may be open so the inside can be viewed. If viewers

can see inside, create an environment that would reflect the kind

     of shop/building created.
For example: if it were a dress shop then mannequins with

dresses, a counter and shelves with other accessories, etc. could

     be added.

11. If the door remains closed then use a material on the windows,

so viewers can not see the inside of the building, since unfinished it

    would be distracting.
12. Please put your name and phone number on the bottom of the

   building.
Most important be creative and have fun!
