Andrew K. Schoenfelder from Clifton Springs receives
Ontario County Arts Council Scholarship
Andrew K. Schoenfelder, 20, of Clifton Springs, a Finger Lakes Community College music major, is the recipient of the 2023-24 Ontario County Arts Council Mariner Family Scholarship. Schoenfelder, a 2021 graduate of Midlakes High School, was on the dean’s list in fall 2022 and spring 2023.
“Ever since I played my first notes on the piano at my grandparents’ house, I knew that music was going to be a major part of my life,” he wrote in a letter to the members of the arts council, adding that he would like to become a music teacher.
“This scholarship means so much to me furthering my education so I can help others,” he continued. “I am so grateful to all of you for your generosity. I hope to someday show the same generosity and kindness you all have shown me through my work.”
The Ontario County Arts Council established this award to honor the family of the late Dorothy Mariner, a longtime supporter of the arts. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to an Ontario County resident who is also a second-year student in an arts program at FLCC. The scholarship rotates among the theater, visual art and music programs.
About the Mariner Family
Arts Scholarship
Each year OCAC and it's members fund a scholarship grant in the amount of $2,000 to a deserving second year student attending Finger Lakes Community College in memory of former OCAC President, Dottie Mariner and her family. Funding for the scholarship comes from those who support the arts council by becoming members or participating in fundraisers.
The award is given annually to a second-year FLCC student studying the visual or performing arts who is selected by the FLCC Arts Department faculty from students who apply through the FLCC Scholarship Foundation.
