About the event

Mary Ann Proia leads this workshop on September 17 from 10am to 2:30pm, with an half-hour lunch break. The workshop is in the West Lake Schoolhouse, located on the corner of West Lake Road and Butler Road, Canandaigua. There is on-site parking. Weather permitting, part of the class will be outside.

The class covers the creation of a natural indigo vat and arashi (pole wrapping) shibori on cotton fabric. Students will make a vat of indigo dye and will be able to bring home some of the dye. Students will create a dyed fabric by dipping pole-wrapped cotton in a large indigo vat.

Students are asked to bring: 

Lunch/beverages

Quart mason jar with lid to take home dye

Plastic bag for wet fabric

Paper and pens for note taking

Unwaxed dental floss

Class is $50, plus $15 materials fee payable to instructor. Contact ocartsny@gmail.com with questions.
